Mini and standard DP ports as well as 2xHDMI (MHL). According to Dell, the MHL designation is supposed to signify the monitor at HDCP 2.2 compliant. That is you could use it to watch HD content from providers like Amazon or Netflix. The providers get huffy about DRM for HD content and insist on HDCP 2.2. The downside is that the entire system has to be HDCP compliant. That means video card and even cable! I still have not worked that all out yet. Not sure if the motherboard onboard video card will break the HDCP even if unconnected. Haven't worked through that yet.
The only downside is that the benefit of 4k at the 28" monitor size is modest. The combination of viewing angle and pixel pitch means that the gain in perceived resolution over my 30" 2560x1600 monitor is modest. If I get very close to the monitor, yes the resolution is clearly better, but at standard desk viewing distances, the 4K will be a modest upgrade over 2560x1600. It will definitely be a big improvement over 1080p (1920x1080) if that is what you currently own. I am considering a 40" 4k monitor. The downside there is that the top of the screen is high on the desk. It hurts my neck to look up that far on a routine basis. Many love the 40" class monitors. Probably will order one in the near future.
The monitor provides a sharp picture at 3840 x 2160 resolution. It provides a lot of on screen real estate even at 150% scale which Windows 10 "Recommended" and made text reasonably sized. You should know that the monitor has a relatively small viewing angle. The picture is fine when viewing straight on. But, at about 10° off axis, the hue begins to change and you lose the sharpness. So factor that into your decision.
I haven't used them but there are many settings for picture in picture if you plan on multiple sources. I can imaging running a TV/Video in the corner while keeping the rest of the monitor for the computer. Monitor date: August 2017.
Overall, I'm pleased. This is not a great 4K monitor, but is is a pretty good deal for the $299 I paid. And my vendor was tax free. I definitely recommend the monitor if it fits your viewing style/requirements.
Image is crystal clear - I use 4k resolution with 200% DPI (I'm not blind, but I like to read text comfortably while leaning back about 2 - 3 feet from my monitor).
Color is excellent out of the box. wash at extreme angles is expected and not an issue at all.
There's a lot of what I consider to be nonsensical hype over TN panels being trash and the over glorification of IPS panels. each as a purpose and both have negatives... I'll argue that IPS negatives are far worse than TN, namely IPS glow.
coming from a recent 24" Hanns.G TN panel , I purchased 2 brands of IPS panels (having been caught up in the hype). Both exhibited intolerable IPS glow, one even have IPS and horrible Light bleed (cough.. LG..). After 2 horrible let downs, I went to Dell as I should have from the start and I went back to TN , as I should have. I won't move away from TN until prices on 4k VA panels come down enough for me to test one out and even then, if glow and bleed are still issues, I'm happy to stick with TN where blacks are black, color is good enough for any game or work I do , and more importantly no GLOW!
Note to Amazon: shipping length was horrible. order didn't ship until 3 to 4 days after I purchased it. Then , on the date I was supposed to receive it, it was rescheduled last minute. I wish these ratings included feedback for Amazon. The product is 5 stars , Amazon is 1 star.. you're slipping Amazon. If this becomes a pattern , I'll go back to Newegg for my electronics.
Pros:
1) 4K Resolution
2) Sharp crisp picture
3) 2ms response time
4) Wide variety of connectivity (HDMI 2.0 [when enabled through the menu], DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort and USB 3.0)
Cons:
1) Issues with the power save mode. (Does not turn off with my computer on Mini DisplayPort.) I have to physically unplug the monitor to reset it so it can go into power save mode.
2) Buttons on monitor are cheap and not responsive. (I had to use a pen to turn on the power button)
3) Lack of VESA Mounting Holes. (There is a bracket available on Amazon for this monitor that enables it to be VESA mounted. I bought said bracket and it is garbage. It uses a 2" diameter circular brace with an all thread screw for adjustment. The circular brace attaches to the monitor with double sided tape. The tape didn't last long (approxmently 8 hours) so I had to use duck tape to make it hold.
4) Monitor as a whole feels cheaply made and flimsy.
Dell has been known in the past to make solid monitors. This one is not a solid monitor.
2 out of 5 Stars.
