Yes, this product is compatible with car audio systems with auxiliary input, however, this product will still cause your phone to use data to browse Pandora and stream.

Please don&#39;t listen to the other reviews. This is a HOME wi-fi audio receiver. It doesn&#39;t transmit any wifi signal from your internet provider to a mobile device to use for data. It&#39;s not for you car.

It will join your local broadband wi-fi at home and transmit a wi-fi signal (as audio packets) from your phone (or mobile device) and convert it to analog audio for a home receiver or set of powered speakers to playback the music. On your phone, you must use a &quot;cast&quot; enabled player (most all of the audio streaming services are &quot;cast&quot; enabled&quot;). Then instead of playing back the music in your headphones or built in speaker, you choose the output signal to go to the ChromeCast audio device instead.

You can use the mini 3.5mm analog stereo audio cable to connect to powered speakers or a stereo/receiver/amp (AUX in usually) or use a mini TOSLINK/SPDIF optical cable (if you have TOSLINK optical &quot;in&quot; on your receiver) - This way keeps the signal all digital, and lets your home receiver do the digital to analog conversion, rather than the ChromeCast device.

It does require power for the little audio converter, so it comes with a USB type power connector (for power only - no data).

There is a micro USB to standard USB cable and a power adapter included.  The micro USB end, plugs into the Chromecast device and the standard USB  end, plugs into the included power adapter, which you plug into a wall plug.

Can I plug this into my bluetooth car receiver and avoid data charges on my phone while using pandora?

Anything that uses a 3.5 mm Aux cord can be used with it--laptops, MP3 players, phones, etc

If you have a 3.5mm cord with a male plug on either end, you would plug it in to your headphone jack on your phone to the back of this unit. Just be sure to follow all of your phone's precautions. It would be like using an external speaker on your phone.

-Quick Intro-
The Chromecast Audio is a great audio streaming device intended as an affordable add-on for audio systems that don't already have the ability to stream music. I've connected mine to my Pioneer turntable and amp from the mid 1980s, and I couldn't be happier with the sound for what I paid.

-Setup-
This was a short and simple process . The Chromecast Audio was extremely easy to set up through the Google Home app on my Google Pixel. The app automatically found the Chromecast and set it up to work with my home WiFi.  I was then given the option to name my Chromecast to keep track of it in case there are other devices nearby.

After setup, the "cast" icon will show up in supported apps such as Google Play Music and let you select the Chromecast from a list of nearby devices. Once you hear the connection jingle, you're ready to start playing music.

-Connectivity-
The device comes with a male-to-male 3.5mm audio jack,. which can be used on any powered speaker system that has a 3.5mm auxiliary input. Additionally, the Chromecast can also output to analog RCA stereo (the red and white cables) and optical digital out. These last two options both require the purchase of an adapter cable, and if you want to connect to a HiFi system or home theater, these are likely your only connection options. 

-Audio Quality-
I wanted to address other reviewers' concerns with the audio quality of the Chromecast Audio. I've noticed that many of these reviewers state that when the Chromecast is connected to a HiFi system, the audio quality doesn't sound much better than the average Bluetooth speaker. Before buying the Chromecast, these statements concerned me given that the device has the hardware to handle lossless audio. I decided to still buy it since I could easily return it if I wasn't happy, and I am glad that I took the risk because while the other reviewers weren't wrong, the issue could be fixed with the flip of a switch in the Google Home app. Unfortunately, finding this switch is not easy.

-How To Get The Best Audio Quality-
To access the setting to fix the audio, you must first open the Google Home app and tap the "Devices" icon in the upper-right corner. That will open the devices menu, which displays all of the home devices near you that are registered to your account and what they are currently doing. From here, find the card for your new Chromecast and tap the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of the card and click "Settings" when the small menu pops out. This will bring you to the device settings for your Chromecast. This menu is full of useful settings that you can play with if you feel adventurous, but we're looking for a specific one in the "Sound" subsection. This section has two options as of writing this. The first is "Playback sounds" which I recommend having on so you know when you've successfully connected to your Chromecast and are ready to play music. The second option is the one we're looking for. This one is "Full dynamic range", and it's what makes the difference between quiet, tinny music and big, warm, pleasant music. Just tap that switch on the right to start getting the full experience from your Chromecast. If you want to know why this is off by default, tap the "Learn More" button below the "Full dynamic range" setting.

Once full dynamic range is enabled, the Chromecast Audio becomes a magical little circle of musical goodness that it has no right being at this price. 

-Conclusion-
The Chromecast Audio is possibly the best audio streaming device you can find for $35. Setup is easy, and the audio quality is top-notch once you've enabled full dynamic range. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to add music streaming to an older audio system.

Excellent Add-On Audio Streamer for Price

Waaaaay better than sound than Bluetooth, stream to as many speakers as you want simultaneously perfectly with no echo.  Bluetooth will not stream more than 2 speakers at a time. If you’re like me and have several existing stereos in your house all with aux or optical connection then you can turn them into Wi-Fi stereos. Why pay $1000 for 4 Wi-Fi speakers with poor sound none of which have over 30 watts if that when you can use your 135 watt receiver pushing a pair of Cerwin-Vega SL12's, a 95 watt receiver pushing a pair JBL LXE770's, a Sony 50 watt microsystem and a TDK Life on Record 77000015402 2-Speaker Boom box all of which I purchased through the years for less than $1000. The house is now a disco.

Better than bluetooth, stream to endless speakers

This cool little device tucked away discreetly behind an old stereo we have in the house and enabled me to significantly upgrade our listening experience in that room for seriously cheap.  I love being able to pull my phone out of my pocket no matter where I am and control what we're listening to.

The heck with Sonos

If you have older dock devices that you don't use (or if the phone receiver has broken), or if you want to use existing powered speakers to create a whole house system, then this is an excellent solution.  We had several different speakers around our house and we wanted to build a whole house system.   We have added one of these to each of the devices and we're done.   Only drawback is that there isn't an easy way to have this fed directly from the TV, but if you stream from your tablet or phone, then it works to stream the TV sound to the whole house system.

This is an excellent and affordable item that will extend life of old stereo/amps! Follow straightforward Instructions & you'll be enjoying SPOTIFY/RADIO PARDISE played through your existing stereo amps that utilize RCA or optical TOSLINK Digital Audio Cable (preferable). RCA cord enclosed with product is "Average Quality" plus the sound-quality between Optical Audio Cables and older 3.5mm to RCA is significant ... spend additional few $'s and get an Optical cable!
It's controlled using your SmartPhone with App from PlayStore. Couldn't be easier to set-up & since uses my home WiFi for signal, never a worry about phone-time. After station choices are made via SmartPhone & you're listening, your SmartPhone is free to use (completely disconnected from ChromeCast). NEVER experiencing "loading"; NEVER contending with "drops" is a wonderful thing.
Such a simple (and priced so low) idea in such a small package ... Walmart packaging and delivery were exactly as stated.

Uses WIFI, not BLUETOOTH

Setup much easier with the Google home app compared to other brands when using with an android phone. Still cumbersome and glitchy just like all the others. Lacks any customizing options. No ability to adjust sound output (eq,fx,etc.). Only 4 stars instead of 3 because it stands out as easier to set up and plays nicer with different systems. Sound quality is average. Really wish they would make a stand alone renderer, with it's own software, that only uses the phone/tablet/pc as a remote control. I've tried them all. The technology isn't there yet to recreate the experience of plugging something in.

Easy Setup, Average Performance

I purchased 5 of these to do whole home audio a system.  I use one on the front patio, back patio, 2 downstairs and one upstirs.   They do work great but sometimes there is one that has trouble connecting.  It may take a few more minutes to connect but it always does.  Overall,  these are pretty cool

Bought a Chromecast Audio and received a normal base model Chromecast. Actual e-waste garbage. Unsurprisingly the price went up by 50% afterwards too so I'll be buying a more premium product now I guess because thats just a waste of money at more than double msrp
