Details: | Palm Tungsten C for $200 after rebates, maybe (expired: price raised to $500) ![]() A Palm Tungsten C PDA with built-in Wifi and keyboard is available in-store (not online) for $400. A $100 mail-in rebate is available from OfficeMax (photocopy of UPC), and another $100 mail-in rebate is available from Palm (original UPC). However, be warned that I still get numerous reports every month from people who complain that they never get their promised rebates from OfficeMax, so this deal is a huge "maybe" in my book. I suggest that you mail in your OfficeMax rebate with some kind of tracking number and that you photocopy all the documents before sending it in. If you do that and you are willing to place several phone calls and emails to OfficeMax in an effort to have them fulfill on their promised rebate, then this may be a very good deal for you considering most stores sell this organizer for over $400. Note that I am not against OfficeMax or anything, and everyone should know that with every deal that involves a rebate, there are people who never get their rebates. In fact, with every rebate deal that I post, I sometimes hear 1 or 2 people that never get their rebate either because the fulfillment house never sent it, or it could have been because the buyer filled out the rebate form incorrectly - who knows. I only post this warning about OfficeMax because I received an abnormally high number of consumers that swear they filled out the rebate forms correctly and just never received their promised rebates. I have received over 70 reports from consumers claiming rebate problems with OfficeMax in the last 6 months, which is far more complaints that I have heard about all other rebate deals combined in 2003. OfficeMax has told me they are doing everything possible to make sure customer's rebate concerns are addressed, and they even have special contact info for people with concerns about their rebates. |

Advisory: | This deal requires the customer to mail in at least one rebate. Make sure that you save a copy of the rebate form immediately, just in case they take the rebate form offline. It is also recommended that you mail in the rebate immediately after receipt of the item, otherwise you might forget to do so. And you should mark the maximum date that your check is expected to arrive, so that you follow up with the company if you do not receive the check in time. Rebates can be annoying, time consuming, and require a responsible person to follow the tedious rebate instructions. And, this involves the possible risk of the customer fulfilling the rebate requirements but the company choosing not to send the customer a rebate check for any reason. The more well-known or reputable the company is (the company itself, not the company's products), the more likely it is that you will get your rebate. If the rebate is from a company that you've never heard of, of if you question the company's business practices, chances are high that you will never see a rebate check. Understand that dealing with rebates are risky, so ask yourself if the product is worth full price in case you never receive a rebate check. |
