Details:AT&T Legacy Customers Keeping Unlimited Plans:
Update on our previous post about carriers pushing customers onto new plans with limited data service.
  • AT&T: Existing customers who held on to unlimited data plans will be able to upgrade to an iPhone 5 and keep their existing plan, but only if they specifically ask to keep the old plan. Apple stores and AT&T stores can do this, but they will ask if customers want a new plan with new features. Customers who deny the new plans and request to keep their unlimited plans can do so. New AT&T customers must go onto a new plan without unlimited data.
  • Verizon: As mentioned before, existing Verizon Wireless customers with old unlimited plans can keep it with an iPhone 5, but only by paying full price for the new phone ($650). There may be another benefit of paying full price for an iPhone 5, such as it may be ready for worldwide use (good for world travelers). Some Apple stores can do this, but you may have to do it at a Verizon Wireless store. If you pay the subsidized iPhone 5 price ($199, $299, etc), Verizon will force you onto a new tiered plan (no unlimited).
  • Sprint: Sprint offers unlimited service for everyone, for $80/mo plus taxes. Their 4G coverage lags behind AT&T and Verizon, but they say more cities will be going online soon.
  • T Mobile: T-Mobile may not sell iPhone in many of their stores, but they will allow customers to buy an iPhone from an Apple store at the full non-subsidized price (around $650), then active the service at a T-Mobile store. T-Mobile does have an available plan with unlimited data.
Check out a CNN article about unlimited data plans on an iPhone 5.

Also, there are some other nice phones on the market besides the iPhone, such as a Samsung Galaxy S3.
