It has been a very long time since we had a deal on the Polycom (formerly Obihai) telephone Internet adapters. This deal: This can give you free home telephone service, for making and receiving calls.

Plug it in to your high speed Internet router and any regular cordless phone (or buy one), link to a free Google Voice account, and you will be able to make calls within the US and Canada for free, receive calls, voice mail with transcribing, and text messaging.

Beware that 911 emergency service can be added for an annual fee of about $20, but is not included free when using a Internet-based telephone service like this.
