Details:Plasma HDTV Deals:
Some recently posted Plasma HDTV deals that are still available: Plasma TVs are being phased out, and these could be the last LG and Samsung TVs made with Plasma. Manufacturers can build an LED backlit or LED edgelit TV with LCD displays much cheaper than ever, while building Plasma displays is quite expensive.

The superior features of Plasma over LED/LCD is the black levels, viewing angles, and smooth/natural motion (like when watching sports).

The disadvantages of Plasma over LED/LCD are their weight (they usually weigh more), their thickness (usually thicker than LCD), Plasmas sometimes have a slight buzzing noise when on, and they consume about 3 times more electricity then LED/LCD. Here is a Crutchfield article that explains the differences between Plasma and LED/LCD televisions.

In our opinion, if you primarily use your TV to watch sports and have a dimly lit room, Plasma may be a better choice for you than LED/LCD.

Soon, OLED displays will become the new standard, but those TVs are still a few years away from becoming affordable. OLED can emit light per-pixel like Plasma can. This means OLED can have similar deep-black level and excellent viewing angle as Plasma, in an ultra-thin (and curvable) low energy display.
