Details:Free Workplace Stretch Reminder Software
Workrave is free open-source software for Windows and Linux meant to improve the health of people who work on computers. After installed, Workrave will sense when you are working on your computer, and if you work non-stop, it will ask you to stop working and take a break. You can postpone the break reminders, but after a while it will get angry at you.

There are two kinds of useful breaks: Micro-break and Rest-break.

Micro-break reminds you stop working every 4 minutes, and stand up for 30 seconds. This can be good for some people, but I found it too much alerting. I disabled it by right-clicking on the app in the system tray (on Windows), Preferences, and disabling the timer on the Micro-break.

The Rest-break is really useful. After every 45 minutes, it will ask you to stop working and do some simple exercises. If 45 minutes feels too soon, you can change the timer in the program settings. It will also show you some finger, arm, eye, and shoulder exercises to start off your break. This can be a very healthy reminder. You can always postpone or cancel the break alerts if you are too busy. Try it out for a day or two, and see if you feel healthier at the end of the day.

Every doctor will tell you that the seated position of working on a computer is one of the worst things you can do to your body and overall health. Here are two good articles: They explain that even if you go to the gym for an hour after working at a desk for 8 hours, your overall health would still be negatively impacted by the sitting all day. Sitting, without frequent breaks, can cause long-term problems on your body, whereas even simply standing up and stretching once every 15-45 minutes could help prevent some long-term health issues.
