There are forums out there CHOCK FULL of complaints agaist them, calling the Deskstar a "Deathstar". Please, don't help propagate these crappy heart-breakers.

I read that IBM is getting out of the hard drive game and that there's been many, many, many problems with the GXP hard drives.. like if you look at the box there is supposedly some little blurb about how you can only use the drive for so many hours a month.. and i've heard they're up against a class action law suit for the quality of the drives.. might be worth investigating despite the price.. just thought i'd letya know..

Yes, IBM did have some problems with the 60GXP and 75GXP models. All the various forums are centered around complaints of these two model series. I have not seen many complaints on the 120GXP, only speculation based on the prior model series. Most people have stated that IBM solved the problems for the 120GXP series, which were unveiled late last year. Most of the online storage reviews have also given the 120GXP high marks, with the caveat that there may be problems simply because of the previous generation of drives. While these drives are probably not recommended for hard core server duty, they will be more than adequate in the typical home PC market.

The follow on 60GXP has been excellent for me running 24x7 and I know of many other servers using it without problems.   The hours per month spec has been removed by IBM from it's warrantee. This was a knock against IBM, but every drive had the spec listed until IBM got banged up in the press and on the web.   I plan on buying one of these drives also. $73 for 80GB in a professional quality drive. WOW.
